Invitation: What are you doing this Friday, May 1st - May Day?

May Day – May 1st – is International Workers Day, a day of protest and
celebration by and for the working class around the world.

In the climate of deep University cuts and increasing attacks on
teaching and support staff at SFU in particular and the economic crisis
in general, now is the time for workers to come together, raise our
voices, and push…and have some fun!

The TSSU Social Justice Committee invites you to attend an evening
of protest and celebration on May Day – Friday, May 1st – this year in
Vancouver. (see attached poster and info below).

1. May Day Rally and March (5:00pm-6:30)

People before profiteering: expose the roots of the capitalist economic crisis, demand solutions for the working-class!

• Gather at the Vancouver Art Gallery (Robson Street side, between Hornby and Howe) at 5:00 p.m.
• March at 5:30 p.m. to Victory Square (corner of Cambie and East Hastings).

2. May Day Cabaret (7:00pm-)

• Please join us at Rhizome Café (317 East Broadway, near Kingsway).
Doors open at 7:00pm, Event starts at 8:00pm. By donation ($5
suggested); no one turned away for lack of funds.

• The Cabaret will feature a reading from the locally made and
Canadian-focused graphic novel "May Day: A Graphic History of Protest.”

• Performances by The Creaking Planks, Sean Carleton (TSSU Organizer), Mark Leier, Grassroots Women, Sinag Bayan, and Aiyanas.
