International Women's Day is this Thursday, March 8th!

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In Canada, this year's theme celebrates women's roles in the economic prosperity of rural, remote and Northern regions - Strong Leadership. Strong Women. Strong World: Equality.

In rural and remote areas, women make up about 45% of the labour force, yet significant gaps remain between women and men in labour force participation rates, employment rates and income.

Women and girls are contributing to economic prosperity in these regions through innovative projects such as business networks and training in non-traditional occupations.

March 8th is an opportunity to pay tribute to the achievements of women and to highlight the needs and concerns of women on national, regional and global agendas.
