Candidate Statements:
Melissa Roth (for the position of Organizer)
"Hello, my name is Melissa Roth and I have been involved with the TSSU since I started my masters in Archaeology Fall of 2010. I have two years of experience working in the Member Mobilization Committee and was elected Secretary in 2011 which I have held until now. I am now running for the position of Organizer this semester (Fall 2012) and look forward to having the chance to find new ways to reach out to our membership and participate in one of the oldest teaching support staff unions in Canada."
Emily Sadowski (for the position of Trustee)
"My name is Emily Sadowski and I'm running for the position of Trustee.
I am a PhD student in Philosophy of Education, a TA and TM, and have been active in the TSSU for almost 2 years as a Steward for Education and also with the Membership Mobilization Committee.
As Trustee, I would work to help our membership stay informed and involved, and ensure that we conduct our business fairly and effectively. My orientation to seeing the big picture will help me in the role of maintaining oversight of all the workings of our union.
I'm proud to be a member of the TSSU and would be honoured to contribute to our collective good as Trustee. As a member of the executive, I will be committed to upholding our union's principles of solidarity and social justice, and linking our struggles for fairness as education workers to larger social issues in education.
Thank you for your consideration!
In solidarity,
Emily "
Kayleigh MacMillan (for the position of Secretary)
"My name is Kayleigh MacMillan, and I am currently a MA student in the department of Linguistics. I have served as a Steward for my department since I started my graduate studies at SFU last Fall. Recently, I became more involved in the actions of the unions by joining the Strike Coordinating Committee, and the Member Mobilization Committee. I feel my experience on these committees make me uniquely qualified to hold the position of Secretary."
Connor Moffatt (for the position of Coordinator)
"Hello everyone. My names is Connor and I am running for re-election to my post as Coordinator of the Teaching Support Staff Union. I have been very pleased to serve in this position and have found it very fulfilling to be able to help out my fellow workers both by managing most of the day-to-day office bureaucracy as well as helping to manage Union finances. I realize some of you probably know me from the e-mails I forward from the Strike and Contract committees, though at least several hundred of you probably know me directly as the fellow who responds to about 90% of the requests for information and comments that are sent to the Union's e-mail accounts. I've had the pleasure of responding to well over 3,000 such e-mails in my tenure thus far! If re-elected I intend to continue doing what I'm doing for the Union - making processes more efficient, more open to our members and economizing in our practices wherever I can. And for those of you who don't know: If you've got a question, drop me a line via tssu@tssu.ca or coordinator@tssu.ca and I will do my best to answer it or get you to someone who can. This is one of the major benefits of having a Union whose headquarters is right at your doorstep, so please avail yourselves of it."
