Three of SFU's Flags at Half-Mast

THalf-Masthe TSSU is proud to join with SFU's administration in recognizing the National Day of Mourning for Workers Killed and Injured on the Job (Workers Memorial Day), a day when we mourn for those who lost their lives, were injured, or had their health destroyed by the very labour that keeps our modern world working.

SFU lowered its Transit Centre flags to half-mast at the request of its labour unions in order to show solidarity both with labourers around the world who face physical and psychological dangers in their workplaces, and with the unions, labour activists, and legal structures that protect them.

The TSSU is disappointed, however, that the administration has not lowered the much larger and more prominent flags at the bus loop near Cornerstone. We, along with CUPE 3338, asked them to do so specifically because of the symbolism of the day, of showing solidarity with workers, but the administration has thus far refused to lower them for reasons that remain a mystery to us.
