Treasurer

(Treasurer Candidate: Kailey Wright)
Greetings TSSU,

My name is Kailey Wright and I am excited to be running for Treasurer of our Union. I have been a steward in the Chemistry department as well as a member of the finance committee since I joined the TSSU in 2014. My time as a steward has allowed me to gain an appreciation for the challenges faced by the Union, while time on the finance committee has given me insight into the financial aspect of addressing these issues.  This year we have made many excellent improvements to the budget and if elected Treasurer for the 2015/16 fiscal year I will continue to work with the finance committee as well as members of the Executive to adapt to the Union’s financial needs.

As TSSU Treasurer I plan to:

With the intensity of our contract negotiations increasing, the financial aspect of the TSSU becomes ever more essential. I would welcome the opportunity to continue my service to the Union by serving as Treasurer. Specifically, I would bring my aptitude for numbers, efficiency, straightforwardness, and commitment to bettering the future of our Union.
Thank for your consideration and feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding my candidacy at kailey_wright(at)sfu(dot)ca.

In solidarity,
Kailey Wright

(Treasurer Candidate: Haida Arsenault-Antolick)
Dear members,

My name is Haida Arsenault-Antolick, and I'm seeking re-election to my current position of Treasurer. I completed my master's degree in December, and continue to TA in the English and Anthropology Departments. I have been active in the union in various capacities for over three years, including volunteering as a steward, on several committees, and this past year, as Treasurer.

This year the union has made significant changes to our financial procedures, our bookkeeping system, and to the division of financial duties between the Coordinator and the Treasurer. I hope to be re-elected in order to continue to work with the Coordinator and Finance Committee to smoothly institute these changes, ultimately increasing the union's efficiency, transparency, and institutional memory with regards to finances. During my term I've focused on making financial information more accessible to members, identifying and updating outdated and / or conflicting financial policies, and developing a new budgeting process to create a more accurate and comprehensive budget.

In addition to my experience with the TSSU, I have volunteered for many non-profit organizations, including serving as Operations and Finance Officer of the Graduate Student Society here at SFU. This year has been rewarding and challenging. I hope to be able to build on the knowledge and experience I've gained this year, and to serve the union for another term.

Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions please email me at hma18(at)sfu.ca.

In solidarity,
Haida

Trustee #2

(Trustee #2 Candidate: Carl Mandy)
Hello! My name is Carl Mandy, and I am running for TSSU Trustee 2. I am studying for an MA in Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies.

I have been involved with the TSSU since my first day as a student at SFU. I previously worked as a teacher, where I saw the importance of collective organizing in response to threats and problems facing the education sector. I was a local union President, and the Teacher Representative on my college’s Board of Governors, providing me with eleven years of experience in education activism. At the same time, I also had significant participation in the student movement, campaigning against cuts facing universities.

Within the TSSU, I am my departmental steward, and am currently part of the committees on Membership Mobilization, Social Justice, and Internal Relations. This has given me a thorough understanding of the workings of the union, a necessity for being a Trustee. I am running for this position because I want to help ensure the TSSU runs effectively and efficiently, so as to best serve the interests of all its members. I welcome the responsibility this position brings, and look forward to working with everyone in the future.

Thank you for reading!

Carl Mandy

Secretary

(Secretary Candidate: Ashley Livingstone)
Hello, my name is Ashley and I am running for the Secretary position. I am a MA student in the Psychology department and have been TA’ing for 3 years. I have been involved with the TSSU for well over a year now as an active member of the Membership Mobilization Committee (MMC). I am taking this round of elections as an opportunity to get more involved with the TSSU during this “exciting” time. I feel that my involvement with the MMC has prepared me to serve in the position of Secretary.

Ex-Officio

(Ex-Officio Candidate: Jeff Zurek)
I have been apart of the TSSU executive as a chair and trustee  most recently as ex-officio and was part of the contract committee in the last round of bargaining. The ex-officio position is designed increase the institutional memory on the executive committee and I believe that my previous experience will allow me to do just that.
