Contract Committee Returns to Bargaining for RAs
The Contract Committee is returning to the bargaining table to secure the first Collective Agreement for RAs! We would greatly appreciate your help spreading the word to members in your department, attending bargaining sessions, and encouraging others to join as well.
We will begin to bargain substantial issues that are important to RAs, including maternity/parental leave, healthcare and dental benefits, vacation, scheduling changes, and more. Your presence at these sessions will demonstrate to the Employer that RAs are actively fully engaged in this process and are committed to getting their Collective Agreement now.
Our scheduled bargaining sessions will be held next week on the Burnaby campus as follows:
- November 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in ASB 10704
- November 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in ASB 10704
- November 20 from 9:00 to 1:00 pm in ASB 10704
We hope to see you there! As always, coffee, snacks, and t-shirts will be available to members who attend bargaining sessions.
Reminder: TA Postings Are Open for Spring 2025
This is a friendly reminder to submit your applications for Spring 2025 postings! Each department is required to have postings available for at least two weeks. Deadlines are soon approaching, so don't miss the application closing dates which end on November 11, 2024 in most departments. A centralized website of postings can be found here. For more information on Teaching Assistant (TA) work, please find information on our FAQ page.
As a reminder, graduate students are entitled to job priority in their home departments. This means that graduate students should be offered a full posting (e.g., 5.17 base units) prior to undergraduate or external applicants.
For Spring 2025, the commencement of term date is January 6, 2024. This means that you should not be expected to begin your duties until that date.
If you have questions or concerns about the practices surround job postings in your department, please email tssu@tssu.ca immediately, and we will be happy to help!
