TSSU November GM

TSSU’s November General Membership Meeting is on Wednesday 22nd October, 4.30-6.30, in Harbour Centre room 2245. Dinner is provided, and all members are welcome to attend. General meetings are the principal decision-making body of the union, where all members are able to speak, vote, and set the agenda. They also provide a great opportunity to find out what the union is doing, what issues are affecting different departments and the university as a whole, and to meet new people. We run three GMs each semester, taking place on Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver campuses. See our calendar for more information on this and our other committee meetings.

Current proposed agenda items for the meeting include:

Following the General Membership Meeting, we have our bowling social upstairs at Grandview Lanes, 7.30-9.30, 2195 Commercial Drive. Everyone who RSVP'd has a guaranteed place, and we have also booked an additional fifth glow-in-the-dark lane upstairs, so we have limited extra room for a few more people.

Proposed TSSU By-Law Changes for New Salaried Officer Position

At the TSSU General Membership meeting on Monday 23rd October, a presentation was made of proposed language changes to the union's By-Laws and Policies. The central focus of these changes relates to the introduction of a new Salaried Officer position, proposing a second Chief Steward role, in order to address long-running overwork issues on the advocacy side of the organization.

If accepted, TSSU's Salaried Officer positions will be Coordinator, Organizer, Chief Steward I, and Chief Steward II. One major difference between the proposed Chief Steward II position and the other existing roles is that it is salaried at 15 hours/week, rather than 25 hours/week.

At the next TSSU General Membership meeting on Wednesday 22nd November, in Harbour Centre 2245, 4.30pm-6.30pm, members will be asked to vote on whether these proposed changes are accepted or not.

The proposed changes can be read in full in this document, which shows the current language alongside highlighted changes. Note that only those By-Laws and Policies affected by the proposed changes are included in this document.
