Getting Started
As soon as you receive an appointment as a Teaching Assistant, Tutor-Marker, Sessional or Language Instructor, you automatically become a member of the TSSU.
The TSSU is a labour union that negotiates with the University to establish rules governing your working conditions. These include a number of benefits and protections for you as a worker, and a number of guidelines the University must follow in administering your contract, pay and benefits.
All of this is outlined in our current Collective Agreement in force from May 2004 until April 2010. The Collective Agreement is a great source of information regarding many aspects of your job. You should receive a copy of the Collective Agreement with your first appointment, alternatively, you can always take a look at the PDF copy on our website. Feel free to call or email us with questions anytime.
If you want to know more about the Union works internally, you can read through our TSSU Bylaws and Policies which contain information from job descriptions, to elections rules to use of office resources.
