Childcare Bursary
If you have children, are a student at SFU, and currently hold an appointment as a TA, TM or Sessional Instructor, you may be eligible to receive the TSSU Member Childcare Bursary. You must apply online using the regular SFU Financial Assistance Bursary Application Form, which you can find on the website of SFU Financial Assistance: http://students.sfu.ca/financialaid/#bursary. Regular bursary applications close at the end of the second week of the semester, but you can access an application form for the Childcare Bursary at any point.
SFU allocates $50,000 per academic year to be distributed to eligible TSSU members. Distribution of this money has been steadily on the rise, so that last year nearly the entire amount was distributed. There is over $200,000 in the account and we would like to ensure that all eligible members receive this money for their childcare needs.
Currently, this money is distributed as a bursary through Financial Aid. As a bursary, there are regulations that govern eligibility and which don’t really reflect the childcare needs of our members. If your application is denied for any reason please let us know because we have had success in the appeals process.
We can be reached through email tssu(at)tssu.ca or by phone 778-782-4735, if you have any questions.

Hello,
I am a TSSU member and I just received notice that my application for a TSSU childcare bursary has been denied. I would like to appeal this decision if possible. Please advise how I go about initiating this process.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Mark
