40th Anniversary website launched!

In 2018, TSSU celebrates 40 years of certification. We were first certified as a union in 1978, and we have been an independent, feminist, non-hierarchical, and directly democratic organization ever since. In celebration of our history and our all of our members’ hard work, we’re eagerly counting down to December 7th and 8th, the weekend of TSSU’s 40th Anniversary Celebration!

We have a lot of exciting events planned, and we’re inviting all TSSU members, past and present, to take part. To kickoff the weekend, we’re hosting dinner, drinks, and trivia at Club Ilia on Friday, December 7th. Food and drinks are on us, but boning up on your trivia skills is on you. Let us know you’re coming HERE.

Then, on Saturday, December 8th, we’re moving downtown to SFU Harbour Centre for the TSSU 40th Anniversary Labour School. There’s going to be interactive workshops, panels, walking tours, and more, featuring labour organizers and activists from across the Lower Mainland. Lunch and snacks will be provided, and it’s absolutely free. Register for the labour school HERE.

Finally, we’ll be capping off our celebration with a huge 40th Birthday Party at Lost & Found Cafe, featuring a taco dinner, drinks, cake, piñata, music, and prizes. All members who attend receive dinner, cake, and one free drink each. RSVP for the party HERE. If you are a past TSSU member or collaborator and wish to attend, please email us at 40th@tssu.ca.

TSSU has been a vital voice for teachers at SFU for four decades now, and we want everybody who has been a part of this experience to celebrate with us. And don’t forget to submit your piece to TSSU’s special collection, Equity, Security, Solidarity, Action: Reflection and Celebration of TSSU at 40. We want to publish your essays, drawings, collages, graphic design pieces, comics, stories, plays, poems, etc. to help our community recognize, critique, and appreciate the foundations of our union, look forward to TSSU’s future, and provide a resource for future members and activists.
