TSSU Childcare Bursary or ‘TSSU Award for Student Parents’?

If you have children, are a student at SFU, and currently hold an appointment as a TA, TM or Sessional Instructor, you may be eligible to receive the TSSU Member Childcare Bursary. You must apply online using the regular SFU Financial Assistance Bursary Application Form, which you can find on the website of SFU Financial Assistance. The deadline for this semester is Friday, September 12.

We are currently looking at the possibility of changing the way this fund is disbursed. Currently, it is a bursary and distributed through Financial Aid. We will be conducting consultations this semester to see if our members would prefer to turn this into a ‘TSSU Award for Student Parents’ such that it would be a non-taxable lump sum that would be paid out to all student parents at SFU who are TSSU members.

Let us know what you think, email tssu (at) tssu.ca with your feedback or come to our upcoming general membership meetings where we will be discussing this proposal and deciding whether to run a referenda to make this change.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following pages outline some of the most common questions and concerns that members have about their rights and responsibilities. This is by no means an exhaustive guide, so if you have any questions or concerns that can not be answered below, please don’t hesitate to contact us for help.

By-laws and Policies

Below you will find the most updated copy of the TSSU By-laws and Policies (updated May 27, 2008). Bylaws and Policies are generally drafted by our Internal Relations Committee and sent to our General Membership Meetings for discussion and approval. If you are interested in policy, have suggestions or would like to volunteer for the Internal Relations Committee, please contact our Coordinator at coordinator (at) tssu.ca or 778.782.4695

Professional Development Fund

As you know, instructors in the ELC and ITP Programs have a Professional Development Fund that they can apply to.

In order to apply, download the form below, fill it out and hand it into the Pro-D Fund Committee (Terri Wershler or Irene Ouimet). They will review your application, okay it and then send the paperwork on to the Program so it will release the funds.

This money is yours to use, so don't hesitate to apply!
